Back to the Yoga Mat

Well, back to the Bangor yoga mat-returned back to class after one week away, and I maintain a sense of sunny optimism as I come back not only to the mat, but to finding balance in daily life.

Sunflowers in August

I was honestly a little uncertain about how a more “Yang” practice would feel after such and intensive Yin experience for the last week. We began with a Yin-style opener-supported reclined Baddha Konasana using blocks to lift into a bit of a supported fish (elevating the heart and supporting the head). Easy, breath and entry into the class. Then we did a lovely standing sequence, and I felt the muscles pulse with energy and vibrancy, and a general enerGIZING of myself back into the world.

I will be teaching a Yin-oriented class at Central Street Yoga this fall, and I think the balance of classes at the studio will be wonderful-so students can do a little Yin, a little Yang, and bring balance into their practice and lives! It will be a fun adventure at the very least.  It all starts Labor Day week, as does the beginning meditation workshop.

Insight Yoga-I am found

It’s been awhile since my last posting.  Since July…I’ve been teaching, working, and preparing for an intensive with Sarah Powers on Insight Yoga. I’ve just returned from Kripalu, back to the mat in Maine, and I’m energized to really work YIN into my personal practice and my teaching. This slow, deep form of asana moves energy, and is healing for the being physically and emotionally. I am finding it to be a key practice for me in slowing my nervous system down-consciously. It’s all about balance, in daily life, and this practice is phenomenally beneficial, and such a good mixer with more physical, zesty yoga practice, or just to be had solo. More to come!
